PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS

In the interest of research and development I have done my fair share of online shopping. Shoes, dresses, inflatable llamas: I’m here for it.

Your online shop has the image of the product, the price and the all important ‘add to cart’ button.

But what about the product description? That little section next to or below the image is your chance to tell people about the product - what it is, what problem it will solve in their life, how it will make them look and feel, or what it tastes like.

Don’t leave your online customers wondering about the details.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do I need to include in product descriptions?

There’s a great saying: “Facts tell, but stories sell.”

Product descriptions can give the facts (eg: Australian made/linen/lightweight) or they can tell a story (Made in Australia, this super comfortable linen dress will be your go-to summer outfit for everything from the backyard BBQ to your niece’s christening).

Customers absorb information in dozens of different ways. Some will purchase based on the image alone. Some will want bullet points (or facts), others will want context. Let’s make sure you provide your customers with all the info they need, in all the ways they want it.

What is SEO and why is it important in product descriptions?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It’s part of the reason why certain pages are listed at top of Google when you search for ‘linen dress’ (are you with me?) and others are way over on page 3 (I think. Whoever goes to page 3?)

Including extra information within your product descriptions helps people find your business through the Google-machine faster (i.e. the top of page 1) without even having to pay for it.
